Treatments That Address Volume Loss FAQ's

What are treatments that address volume loss?

Treatments that address volume loss are injectable gels that restore volume to areas of the face. Many contain a substance that replicates the actions of a naturally occurring sugar molecule, attracting and holding water to assist with skin hydration. The products can be placed below the skin's surface to provide more youthful contours and smoother skin..

How quickly will i see results?

Treatments that address volume loss produce instant results - a typical first procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes.

How long will the results last?

The effects of treatments that address volume loss are long lasting but not permanent, and can last anywhere between 9 and 24 months, depending on what product has been used. After your initial treatment, follow up sessions are usually recommended to maintain results.

Are there any side effects?

The type of volume loss product that contain the synthetic sugar molecule are usually well tolerated, however, as with all medications, side effects can occur. Reported side effects include injection site redness, pain, firmness, swelling, lumps and bumps, bruising, itching or discolouration, and slight tenderness at the treatment site. In the vast majority of cases, these effects are temporary and should resolve shortly after each injection, or within a few days to a week. If you are concerned about any side effects contact either Territory Laser Clinic or Dr Herbert Hooi directly.

When receiving treatments that address volume loss, it is recommended that you avoid massaging and/or applying pressure to the treatment area for a few days following treatment. It is also recommended that you avoid lengthy exposure to the sun, UV rays, and extreme temperatures for 2 weeks.

Is there any downtime?

There is very little downtime with treatments that address volume loss. The average treatment session lasts between 15 and 30 minutes and you can return to your day-to-day activities straight away. Some volume loss products also contain anaesthetic, which can reduce discomfort during injection. Dr Hooi usually injects a separate anaesthetic prior to administering dermal filler injections for your comfort.

How are volume loss treatments used in the lips?

Volume loss treatments can be used to restore both lip balance and structure. The objective of treatment is to restore what has been lost over time and to create natural-looking and feeling results.

What should I expect from my volume loss treatment procedure?

Treatments that address volume loss are a non-surgical procedure. They are administered through injection by a trained medical professional - Cosmetic Physician Dr Herbert Hooi. Like any injection, there may be some discomfort during the procedure. The level of discomfort varies from one person to another and depends upon which product is being use and what area is being treated. For example, the lips can be particularly sensitive.

Some of the volume loss products contain an anaesthetic called lidocaine, which has been shown to increase patient comfort. Also, the addition of the lidocaine simplifies treatment, as it means a separate anaesthetic is not required. With treatments that address volume loss in the lip, Dr Hooi will administer a separate anaesthetic called a dental block for your comfort. Dr Hooi will be able to answer any questions you have about your treatment procedure.
